I chose Chinese 中文 Zhōngwén because I enjoy learning new languages. Secondly, Chinese, in my view, is quite a hard language to learn because there are almost two languages (i.e. writing with Chinese characters 字 zì and pinyin 拼音 Pīnyīn ) within the one.
The thing I enjoy the most about learning Chinese is drawing the characters 字 zì and learning what they mean. I enjoy drawing all the intricate lines within the characters. One challenge that I faced when starting to learn Chinese is actually just getting used to it, because it is not like Spanish and French as it is not just this is the word and this is how it is said. There are a lot more factors to learning Chinese because you need to first learn the character 字, then the pinyin 拼音 Pīnyīn and then making sure you say the word with the right tone.
I would suggest making flashcards or a Quizlet to use outside of class and a little and often approach. I think that doing too much at a time won’t benefit as much as doing it little and often because doing too much can just make you exhausted and your brain won’t be as responsive. I found that having a drawing keyboard on my iPad etc helped me memorise the characters easier as I was drawing them instead of writing the pinyin and finding the character.
